Phil and I are witnessing a miracle each day that we spend with our friends, Don and Ardella. Don't quote me but I believe it was about a year ago that Ardella qualified to go on Hospice ... meaning she was released from her cardiac specialist's care. They had done all they could for her and reluctantly instructed her to go home and put her affairs in order then live each day like it was her last ... because it very well might be. Just a week or so ago (again, don't quote me) she went in to transfer her Hospice care from Payson (her home town) to Casa Grande (where they've been staying off and on since Christmas and where we're heading from QZ). After a thorough examination ... she was informed that she was much TOO WELL to be on Hospice and they have disqualified her! It sounds too good to be true but believe me, I'm seeing the results of her miraculous recovery every day. After total knee replacement surgery, cancer and heart failure along with various other lesser problems like pneumonia and diabetes, she is getting better before my eyes! She tells me that her heart has been damaged so badly that she only has 27% that is functioning but that 27% is getting stronger every day. Ardella says that traveling with us and spending time with me "in her old age" has been one of her major incentives to get better so I'll gladly take part of the credit--but, being here, in sunny Arizona with my dear friend of 57 years (we met when we were eight years old) enjoying the beautiful weather and seeing the sights in QZ in her company, is truly a blessing for which I will be forever grateful.
