One of Yuma's claims to fame is the Yuma Territorial Prison State Park. Sitting high on a rocky outcropping in the NE corner of the city, the view (especially from the main guard tower) of the former Colorado River plain which is now just a grassy shadow of it's former self is spectacular. The Arizona State Park service has done a great job renovating what is left of the prison after years of neglect and even some deliberate demolition by the railroad. The museum has an interesting assortment of memorabilia and plays a short but very informative tape (on a big screen TV) of the history of the prison narrated by park employees. We had the place nearly to ourselves and shade trees, green grass, landscaping and bright white paint aside, the feeling of isolation was a bit spooky.
After a quick walk through at Paradise Casino just down the road (ho hummmmm ... nothing special) we drove over to my Aunt Elaine's house for one of her delicious home cooked dinners (pork chops, yummm!) and some family talk which is my favorite thing in the world to do! She had two more packages of mail for us so at last, we're caught up with our mail delivery now.
