Soon after I began writing our blog in 2004, I received a very sweet and encouraging comment from a new reader. Her name is Margie and she and her husband Roger live in TN. Roger is one of the lucky ones and retired early so when Margie retired a few years later, she started a blog of her own: http://www.rv-adventure.blogspot.com/ and they fully intended to do some extensive traveling in their big, beautiful motorhome.

As so often happens, things changed—they literally fell into the ultimate real estate bargain and bought the house next door. A big 2500 square feet, it needed mega work and soon the two of them were up to their eyeballs in reconstruction, remodeling, repairing, renovating and all other aspects of turning a sow’s ear into a silk purse. The PLAN was to live in their home until all the work was done in the new house but the old house sold so fast, they had to move in and live in the middle of all the demolition and destruction. All the while, amid the paint and sawdust, Margie has been posting updates and pictures of the project from the very beginning to right now. The house is not completed yet but even so, it is beautiful and they are rightly proud of their joint efforts.
When we were going over the map planning our trip to visit the TN state capital in Nashville I realized that Margie and Roger lived just a few miles east and visiting them was a very real possibility. Why I hadn’t thought of it before I can’t say … brain dead I guess! I e-mailed her, she wrote back and said, “Come on by, we’ll be home.” And so yesterday we did just that! Margie served us a wonderful lunch and we had a great visit! Although I felt like I’d been in the house through the whole project, the “grand tour” was even more spectacular. It is truly an elegant home and if or when they decide to move to a smaller home (that was the plan before this project popped up), Margie says they will have no trouble making a very nice profit and after seeing the house in person Phil and I agreed!

After leaving Margie and Roger’s home, we headed into Nashville and drove around town for an hour or so taking pictures and then managed to get back home in Manchester by 5:30 PM, safe and sound. It was a great day!
