7:00 AM Sunday December 5, 2004

Today is the seventh day or our new life as fulltime RVers. How do we like it so far? On a scale of 1-10, for me it is a big bold ELEVEN! I can't speak for Phil and I can't ask him because he's still in bed this morning, but my guess is ... he'd say the same. We have had a week of "firsts" with many, many more being happily anticipated. Our gray matter (especially memory) is being tested on a daily basis and we feel we are failing miserably so keeping notes and writing lists has become top priority. We make a pretty good team as we travel down the road; Phil's sharp eyesight and my navigation skills are working well together. So far, we're batting 1000! Our test today is to find a Wal*Mart. There are 10 in the West Sacramento area ranging from .5 to 20 miles away according to the map at Wal*Mart's website. Our plan to save tax money by buying our new 20" flat screen TV didn't pan out. The store in Grant's Pass was sold out and the clerk called Medford and they were as well. Since we wanted to get over the Siskiyou mountain pass ASAP we didn't search out any other Oregon stores. We did buy a combination DVD-VCR combo (it was cheap so we only saved about $6.00 in tax) to install along with the new TV once we find one. The motorhome continues to perform flawlessly ... a big thank you to former owners, Tim and Sherri! Phil plans to replace some kind of overflow (backflow, or something like that??) gas line because he found a small leak a couple days ago. He tightened the connection and it stopped but he decided a new line was prudent ... "an ounce of prevention ..." so to speak. I want to swing through downtown Sacramento sometime today and take a closer look at "Old Town Sacramento" and visit the CA State Capital. The California International Marathon, a 25 mile run is a big happening in town this morning. It started at 7 AM and the finish line is at the capital building so we have to wait for that to be over. There's a tiny little hole-in-the-wall cafe down the road from our RV park in the middle of the industrial area that we want to check out this morning. Obviously it caters to the local workers as it's open for breakfast and lunch only. It's supposed to rain later today but so far, although chilly (about 36') the sun is shining brightly! We love California! Here are a few of the pictures that Les took and shared with us via e-mail.
