My sister, Dixie is an Antique Dealer and has been in the business for nearly 30 years. I'd never gone before so on October 30th, Phil and I drove to Portland, Oregon to get a look at her set up at the huge twice yearly, Portland Expo Antique Show. At the winter show, there are almost a thousand dealers snugly packed into three huge buildings then at the summer show, an additional 600 dealers set up in the parking lots outside. Dixie has paid for space at this show for many years and her sales are usually fairly good. A few years back, E-Bay sellers started taking their toll on the private antique dealers but it appears that the trend is slowing as sales are starting to improve again. It's hard to beat the exhilaration of spotting a collectible, picking it up, taking a closer look, examining the item top to bottom with your hands then being able to take it home ... right now!
