Our day in Boston was very enjoyable. The weather couldn’t have been better. It was a gorgeous sunny day without any wind out on the water so I felt totally safe in the boat. The views of Boston from the Charles River were spectacular although our launch ramp was reached by driving through an ugly construction staging area for the “Big Dig”, Boston’s makeover of their public transportation system that’s been going on for more years than they care to admit. If truth be told, I would have loved more time in the city but realistically, for us, driving into downtown would be out of the question. Our Duck Boat Tour driver has lived there all his life and maneuvering around the narrow streets was so tight, he warned us several times to keep our hands and arms inside the vehicle. I’ve finally come to realize that the only way to spend more time in the heart of any big city is to use public transportation to a downtown hotel and spend a few days exploring on foot (we saw several walking tours on the streets).
After our Duck Boat Tour, we spent several hours in the Boston Museum of Science. One of the tours two pickup points, we found our way to the museum easily and parked in their parking garage early in the morning. We experienced some commuter traffic coming into Boston but overall, it wasn’t too bad at all. The museum was wonderful and we also attended a “Fighter Pilot” omni (360° screen) theater experience. We both gave our necks plenty of exercise while we flew jets along with our nation's finest. The museum is so full of interesting and interactive exhibits; Phil and I had to force ourselves to leave in order to get home before dark (we try not to drive after dark unless we’re very close to home).
