This gorgeous red wildflower is everywhere along the backroads (and freeways) in Arkansas. Up close, they have a compact clover-type flower head along with a clover shaped leaf but some are two feet or higher in height. I have never seen red clover or clover that big.

Can anyone identify them?
4-13-2009: They have been identified as Crimson Clover and are not native to the USA.

  1. I'm not positive, but it may be Crown Vetch, which is often planted along the roadsides for erosion control.
