Happy Holidays one and all! Tomorrow, Phil and I will be spending a quiet day at home reading and watching TV. Maybe I'll even find time to do some more "catch up" on the blog. We are considering our satellite Internet connection as our "gifts" to each other this year but we also have something new to be grateful for today. I'll elaborate ...
Yesterday, we drove into San Diego and took the Old Town Trolley Tour of the city. It was a two hour, fully narrated tour and I'll tell you more about that another time. Old Town San Diego is a CA State Park and there are several free parking lots within a half block of where you board the trolleys. We arrived about 2 PM and ate some lunch at a small cafe across the street before boarding the 2:30 PM tour. At the end of the tour we went directly back to the pickup where we found the back window of our canopy smashed out. Our truck was parked in a busy parking lot, it was broad daylight and we were gone a total of 2 hrs. and 30 minutes! Phil's beautiful little 3 HP outboard motor, our new Brake Buddy and the 13" TV we took out of the motorhome had been stolen. The State Park Police came, took our report and feeling angry, heartsick and very violated, we drove back to El Cajon. However, after much venting, we decided that it could have been so much worse. We have full coverage insurance and everything the thieves took can be replaced. My newest motto since retirement is: "If money can fix it, it's not a problem!" An inconvenience, yes, but not a problem. We are thankful there wasn't more damage and since our glass deductible is $250, Phil is replacing the window himself with Plexiglas for about $20. They didn't even damage the lock. Just pried the window up enough to break the glass then reached in and grabbed what was within arms reach. A perfect example of locks not stopping dishonest people.
We are feeling much better now and even found a two-story Wal*Mart today. What fun! In between the up and down escalators they have an up and down cart escalator so you can take your cart in between floors ... isn't that just the wildest thing? We had to try it out and it worked great!
