6 July 1900, 45-year-old Warren Baxter Earp, the youngest of the infamous Earp band of brothers was gunned down in Willcox, AZ by a long-time adversary, John Boyett. According to witnesses, apparently Earp initiated the confrontation and the court determined even though Earp was unarmed except for a pocket knife, (Boyett didn't know this) it was self-defense. A sustantial metal headstone in the old Pioneer Cemetery marks the grave of the only Earp buried in Arizona.
